In the historical ambience, intensive work was done on the main topics for the development of innovative materials and systems for neuromorphic electronics. In addition, the cooperation among the participating scientists could be further intensified by lectures and working groups. Furthermore, a new deputy doctoral student representative was elected by the doctoral students. Christian Zielbold was elected as PhD student spokesperson and succeeds Sebastian Thiele. One of the main objectives of the project funding is to support doctoral students in their specialist fields and across disciplines. The doctoral students of the research group are encouraged to actively participate in the shaping of the project and also to organise their cooperation independently. The two elected representatives are now jointly responsible for this. Frank Feldhoff is doing his doctorate in the field of Theoretical Electrical Engineering in the Theoretical Electrical Engineering Group of Prof. Hannes Töpfer. There he is working on the development of bio-inspired electronics with superconducting elements and their possible applications within the MemWerk project.

He has applied for the position of spokesperson because the inter-faculty cooperation of the doctoral students is particularly important to him. In particular, he would like to constructively shape the communication between the PIs and the individual scientists.

For Sebastian Thiele, a look behind the scenes was the decisive motivation for his application. In addition to gaining experience outside of the everyday scientific work routine with an insight into the work of the project’s board, Sebastian would like to represent the interests of the doctoral students in the project. In his scientific life, Sebastian explores the potential of 2D materials (beyond graphene) for memristive devices, sensor applications and ultimately scaled transistors.
